Think big hair and big curls as we head into the party season. Lets get back to our roots quite literally as we need plenty of root lift to achieve the lift and volume required for these hair styles. Blow dry your hair with a big round bristle brush for extra fullness and a light spritz with a volume spray will help the look last. If your blowdrying skills are not what they could be then try velcro or hot rollers to add that much needed volume.

Some big hair styles with big curls from Joey Scandizzo at ROKK Melbourne and Shane Henning at NOK Sydney. |

If you have been watching the catwalk shows of late one hair look has been very popular with fashion designers around the world and its the 'slicked back' look. Whether it's straight back off the face and slicked down with a wet look gel or styled from a straight side parting and slicked and gelled into a very neat bun at the nape its a look for all but those of us with very short hair and a fun alternative style. Check out our What's New in Hair article for more information.
September 2008
For the first part of 2008 the biggest trend in hair has been the heavy blunt fringe or bangs but as we enter the last few months of the year the fringe is also becoming a thing of the past. Growing out a fringe does not have to be a painful experience as you can progress through various hair styles as you do so. Try pulling back an annoying length of fringe with a thick hair band or pinning it out of the way and creating a little height at the same time with some bobby pins. Get your hairdresser to slide cut your fringe so that it tapers from a shorter length to a longer length and it will sit to one side more easily.

Of all the emails we get we can catagorise the 'what shall I do with my hair' email is by far the most asked question that we receive. Now as you all know the answer to this one is very individual and comes down to things like your own hair length and type, your age, face shape and life style all play personal factors. However what is happening or about to happen hair trend wise is the one factor that will influence us all to a lesser or greater degree. So as a guide to getting it right:
July 2008
This month if you want to have the look think about a heavy broad fringe. Its a great look that can fame a face to perfection but be warned if you have a small or square face this look will only exaggerate your face shape and not be flattering at all.
