There are more and more styling and finishing products on the market each week to cater to every hair styling need. We have tried to simplify them into six main categories but these are only ment as an aid to understanding there use they are gels, mousses, hair sprays, waxes, pomades and oils/drops.
As a general guide hair styling products go into wet hair to give hold and help retain style. Hair finishing products go onto dry hair after you have finished blow-drying or between shampoos to recreate your style daily. Some products can be used for both. We have listed the use (styling or finishing) next to each product type when you click on a selection below you will get more detail on each:
Hairspray
(Finishing)
What's it for? For
hold, smoothing the surface and moisture protection against the
frizzes. Also a great styling aid when tonging, crimping or flat
ironing your hair.
How's it used? Spray
over your finished style or onto each section of hair just before
you use your tongs etc. When using hair spray as a finishing spray
for hold go easy as it will date your look if it "moves as one"!
How does it feel in your hair?
This depends on what you have used the spray for; if used
during the styling process it makes the hair feel thicker and
less flimsy, if used as a holding spray at the end it feels like
a fine film on your hair. Good quality sprays brush out easily
leaving a less coated feeling while still helping to protect the
style. Poor quality sprays leave white flaky residue in the hair
when brushed out and the hair looking dull.
Alternative ideas: Use
on dry hair before tonging, crimping or flat ironing to
protect the hair from the heat and to give a long lasting effect.
Brush the hair through after it has cooled off.
