The flick can be oh so 70's or not as these examples show.

It's all about finding the right hairspray product with the firmest hold, a large round or paddle brush and some large barrel tongs or ceramic irons will also help.

• With most tongs and irons warming up is a thing of the past, making sure they are not resting on something you can singe is not, a distinct memory of the state of my dressing table in the early eighties was the singe marks!
• Add your chosen styling product to your wet hair and roughly dry it 100%.
• When completely dry give your whole head a light spray of hair spray.
• Using a large comb and some section clips to keep unwanted hair out of the way, part your hair as you would normally or to suit look you are after.
• Take individual vertical sections, about 3cm wide, starting from the parting and ending on your hairline. Tong each one backwards towards the centre back. If using irons its the flick of the wrist that gives the curl of the flick! Practice makes perfect.
• Once all or the part of your hair you has been curled, allow it to cool fully, then use a vent brush to break up the 'sausages' and flick back the ends to form your desired look.
• Finish with lashings of hairspray and for that 'disco feel' a little spray glitter would be perfect.
