As a hair product you should not know you are wearing a thermal hair protector as they are not in themselves a styling aid (they don't have a hold factor) but a heat activated hair protector that provides a barrier to heat damage. You may find thermal hair protectors listed as a feature of a styling product but they are mainly found as a stand-alone
hair product.
If you blow-dry your hair or apply
heat to it in any way e.g. with tongs or flat irons, it is essential
to protect your hair from the long term damage that that heat
is doing. Heat damage can be just as severe as chemical damage
leading finally to hair breakage. This is where the thermal protector
comes in.
When found as a stand-alone product
you would not even know that you had put anything in your hair, a big bonus for those of you that don't like the feel you get when you use styling products.
What you will achieve though is a fine layer of protection from any heat that you use to dry or style your hair. You may get some added body and shine too.
Always use a thermal protector if:
- you use a thermal brush (one with
a metal centre, that gets hot from the hot air of the blow dryer)
it is especially important with these because you can more easily scorch or burn your hair if you're not careful!
- you are using hot/ceramic or other types of iron or curling tong as direct heat is the harshest form of heat.
- you have long hair because the older your hair is the more easily it is damaged.
