Metro sexual is the buzz word of the moment but what is so wrong with guys taking as much interest in their appearance as their female or gay counterparts.

The beauty industry as a whole has finally worked out that your half of the market has been very neglected, so look out for make-up for men (check out the new Jean Paul Gautier's range) and the hairdressing industry has suddenly been flooding publications such as ours with what used to be scarce male images.

The No-Hawk!

Looking for a little hair inspiration? Tired of that same old style? Well, get on board with the No-Hawk, a short cut where the hair is styled to form a spikey peak at the top of the head (think of it as the 21st century mohawk).

US stylist Louise Moon recently created the No-Hawk for Newlywed Nick Lachey for a recent magazine photoshoot; it's simple to create but still packs a serious punch. Using L'Oreal Professionnel Textureline and Kiwi Colorflector products, below is a step-by-step guide to creating the newest 80's fashion throwback.

For men who crave secret styling tips from the pros, this is how to do it:

  1. Begin by vertically ironing small pieces of clean dry hair with a narrow flat iron.
  2. Rub Textureshine between your hands and grab small pieces of the hair, smoothing it up away from the head with your fingers.
  3. To get a firm, spiky hold, mix Textureshine and Kiwi Colorflector Illuminator Firm Gel, regulating the hold by how much gel you use.
  4. Finish by lightly misting the sides, front and back of the No-Hawk with Kiwi Rock-It Spray.

Classic cuts for men are always going to be in fashion but long or medium length hair has also made quite a comeback. Ponytails however are not a happening thing and can definitely look sleazy!

If you are going to keep it on the long side, make sure there are no hard blunt lines, keep your hair feathered and a little unkempt looking.

If the idea of longer hair is really not you then don't despair as the short groomed men's look is never really out of fashion. To give it a current edge though keep it hard and mean (think Olivier Martinez and if you don't know who he is ask your girlfriend because she will)!
